Legno intagliato a patina nero lucida. Questi mestoli spesso di grandi dimensioni vengono chiamati Wunkirmian (letteralmente ‘cucchiaio associato alle feste’) e sono un importante segno distintivo per la Wa-Ke-De titolo di grande distinzione attribuito alla donna più ospitale del villaggio incaricata di preparare le grandi feste che accompagnano le cerimonie religiose.

A large African Wunkirmian feasting spoon

Carved wood with lustrous black patina. These large ladles, often of very large size, are called Wunkirmian (literally ‘spoon associated to the feast’) and are the important distinctive sign of the Wa-Ke-De, title of great distinction given to the most hospitable woman of the village in charge of prepare the large feast that accompanies masquerade ceremonies.
